West Bengal College Service Commission invited online application from eligible candidate for 26th State Eligibility Test for the posts of Assistant Professor in West Bengal. The Online Application is active from 1st August 2024. Thus, the eligible and interested candidates should apply only online through www.wbcsconline.in within 31st August 2024.
West Bengal SET 2024 Notification
The West Bengal College Service Commission has decided to conduct 26th State Eligibility Test (SET) will be held on 15th December, 2024 (SUNDAY) for determining the eligibility of Indian nationals for the Eligibility for Assistant Professor only in West Bengal. The Commission will conduct WB SET in 33 subjects at selected Test Centres of different Districts of West Bengal.
Actually, the eligibility for Assistant Professor will depend on the performance of the candidate in both the papers of WB SET in aggregate. Candidates who qualify the WB State Eligibility Test shall be eligible for Assistant Professor as per the recruitment rules in force.
WB SET 2024 Eligibility Conditions
In order to register and appear for West Bengal SET 2024, the following are the eligibility conditions as set by West Bengal College Service Commission. Interested candidates must have the following eligibility to register and apply for registration as on date.
Educational Qualification
- Master’s Degree OR equivalent Examination from Universities/Institutions recognised by UGC with 55% marks for General/EWS candidates and 50% for Other Backward Classes(OBC) belonging to non-creamy layer/ Scheduled Caste(SC) /Scheduled Tribe(ST)/ persons with disability(PWD)/ Transgender category candidates.
- Candidates whose result is awaited can also apply and appear for WB SET 2024, provided they must complete their Master’s degree or equivalent Examination within two years from the date of SET result with required percentage of marks, failing which they shall be treated as disqualified.
- Ph.D. degree holders whose Master’s level Examination had been completed by 19th September 1991 (irrespective of date of declaration of result) shall be eligible for a relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks (i.e. from 55% to 50%) for appearing in SET.
Age Limit Criteria
There is no upper age limit for applying for SET. However, for the purpose of recruitment, the relevant Government Order will be applicable.
WB SET 2024 Examination Scheme
The West Bengal SET 2024 will consist of two papers. Both the papers will consist of only objective type questions and will be held on 15th December, 2024 (SUNDAY) in two separate sessions as under:

- The WB SET Paper-I shall consist of 50 objective type compulsory questions, each carrying 2 marks. The questions which will be of general nature, intended to assess the teaching, research aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate.
- The WB SET Paper-II shall consist of 100 objective type compulsory questions, each carrying 2 marks which will be based on the subject selected by the candidate. All the questions of Paper – II will be compulsory for attempt at the test
The candidate will have to mark the responses for questions of Paper – I & Paper – II on the OMR Sheet provided along with the test booklet.
What is the Qualifying Score in WB SET?
Now, in order to qualify the WB SET or to become eligible for appointment as Assistant Professor, the candidate must have appeared in both the papers and secured –
- At least 40% aggregate marks in both the papers taken together for General (Unreserved) category/EWS candidates and
- At least 35% aggregate marks in both the papers taken together for all candidates belonging to the reserved categories [viz., SC, ST, OBC (belonging to Non-Creamy Layer)/PWD] and Transgender.

Pre-requisite to Apply for WB SET 2024
Apart from being eligible, the applicants in order to complete the Online Application for West Bengal SET 2024 should have the following scanned image ready for the following –
- Passport size photograph in JPG format of minimum 4kb to 40 kb. The dimension of the photograph should be 3.5 cm (width) x 4.5 cm (height).
- Signature in JPG format of minimum 4kb to 30 kb. The dimension of the signature should be 3.5 cm (width) x 1.5 cm (height).
